The Don Wood Foundation, a private foundation in Fort Wayne that is dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing, entrepreneurship, and related education in the region, has recently promoted Laura Macknick to president and CEO from her previous role as executive director.

Macknick earned a Masters degree in Nonprofit Administration and Philanthropy from the Lilly School of Philanthropy at Indiana University and has taught as adjunct faculty for North Central College in their Masters for Nonprofit Leadership Curriculum. She has more than 20 years of nonprofit management, grant writing, fundraising, marketing, and communications experience.

Macknick has served as the executive director of the Foundation since its founding in 2018. Since then, she has helped lead the Foundation to investing over $17.7 million to 89 area partners that help advance manufacturing in the region.

Kim McMahon, president of McMahon’s Best-One Tire, was selected by an independent panel of judges as the recipient of the 29th Tire Business Tire Dealer Humanitarian Award. The award is given annually to an independent tire dealer or retreader who, during the past year, has made significant contributions to the betterment of their community through charitable and/or public service work. McMahon is the first individual woman to receive this accolade.

McMahon was honored Oct. 31 during the Tire Industry Association Honors Program, before the opening of the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

A Fort Wayne native, Vinson earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Economics from Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Do it Best leaders Cherié Jacobs and Jenna Myers were named Top Women in Hardware & Building Supply award winners by HBSDealer magazine, a leading trade publication in the home improvement industry, at a Chicago conference.

Store Development Manager Cherié Jacobs received the HBSDealer Rising Star award, which “recognizes a talented professional with the potential to make a significant positive difference within her company and within the industry for years to come,” according to HBSDealer.

Jacobs leads a team that creates dynamic designs and layouts for Do it Best member-owned stores. She oversees the analysis of each store’s market to ensure it continues to target the best demographic for its unique area.

Divisional Merchandise Manager Jenna Myers received the HBSDealer Business Excellence award, which recognizes a leader who has demonstrated achievement, growth and success in the hardware and home improvement industry, embraced education and community service, and inspired others to follow a similar path, according to the magazine.

Myers helps ensure product availability by leading the merchandising teams who are responsible for the selection and sales of products across a wide range of home improvement categories. For each team, she develops annual budgets, strategic plans, and sets key initiatives, then helps each team reach its goals with regular performance assessments and customized plans.

Myers has also assumed a leadership role as a liaison between product vendors and Do it Best member-owners across the country.

Jacobs and Myers accepted their awards at the national conference hosted by HBSDealer in Chicago on Nov. 8-9.

The Indiana State Police announced the promotions of two Fort Wayne area troopers. Master Trooper Jason Ward and Senior Trooper Christopher Kinsey have been duly promoted to the rank sergeant and will now serve a squad leaders in their respective area of assignment. These promotions were earned through separate competitive selection processes.

Ward is a 20-year veteran of the department. He has been assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division since 2012 where he has primarily worked commercial truck enforcement patrols in the Fort Wayne District. With this promotion Ward will now serve as a squad leader for the CVED-assigned troopers working in and around the Fort Wayne area.

Ward is certified as a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration North American Standard Part A Instructor, FMCSA General Hazardous Material Instructor, and a Standard Field Sobriety Test Instructor. He has previously served as a Drug Recognition Expert and DRE Instructor, crash reconstructionist, field training officer, and member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon. Ward was presented the Superintendent’s Award for the 62nd ISP Academy Class, and the recipient of a Lifesaving Award in 2006.

A native of Huntington, Ward graduated from Huntington North High School in 1994. After high school, he honorably served seven years active duty as a Security Forces K9 Handler (Narcotic/ Explosive) in the United States Air Force. While in the USAF he earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from the Community College of the Air Force.

Kinsey is a 14-year veteran of the department. He has been assigned to the Fort Wayne Post for the past eight years, primarily working road patrol duties in DeKalb and Steuben counties. In this promotion, Kinsey will now serve as a squad leader for the Fort Wayne Post, supervising eight patrol troopers assigned to Allen County.

Kinsey brings to his new position a tremendous amount of leadership experience and working knowledge. Alongside his primary patrol duties, Kinsey serves on our team of three highly skilled and experienced crash reconstructionist at the Fort Wayne Post. He is a primary Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor, a field training officer, formerly served as a high performance vehicle operator, and in 2016 was the awarded the department’s Bronze Star Award.

A native of Steuben County, Kinsey is a 1995 graduate of Angola High School. Before joining the Indiana State Police, he served as a deputy marshal with Ashley Police Department and also as a patrolman with the Angola Police Department (ILEA Class 156).
